Exhilarating Honda V4 performance. Instant power with every twist of the throttle. There is something utterly compelling about the V4 engine of the new Honda VFR1200F. A remarkable blend of raw power, never-ending torque and advanced mass centralisation. All expressed in the beat and feel that only a V4 configuration from Honda can deliver.


The technology used to achieve this is at once both simple and highly complex in its execution. For example, by completely redesigning the engine layout, Honda were able to produce a shorter engine that allowed them more freedom when positioning it within the frame. This enabled the creation of near perfect weight distribution.

The innovation of a new 28° phased shift crankshaft was simple but very effective ? reducing the vibration associated with a traditional V4 configuration, but retaining the distinctive linear power delivery and physical sensation that V4 owners know and love. The closed crankcase and UNICAM technology come from the RC212V MotoGP motorcycle and motocross race machines, while the unique voice of the new exhaust speaks a language to stir the soul.


Throttle by Wire

In a first for Honda motorcycles, the VER1200F features a Throttle By Wire System to ensure outstanding response and seamless acceleration across the engine’s rev range. Throttle by wire system incorporates an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to process information from rider throttle control input and throttle valve position to return a more accurate throttle response. Throttle By Wire improves engine responsiveness and operation by providing fuel delivery that is smoother and more precise.

Layered Concept Fairing

Speaking of sleek, take a close look at the VFR’s unique bodywork, which fuses both the cowl and fairings together to create a single smooth, unified, aerodynamic surface. Also note what you don’t see: no visible fasteners break up the fairing’s lines. This design also routes appropriate air flow in separate paths for both engine cooling and rider comfort.

Combined Braking System with ABS Standards

Another high-tech feature, the VFR’s Combined Braking System (CBS) with ABS. melds the benefits of Anti-Lock Braking (ABS) with the measured application of front brakes when the rear brake lever is used. During front brake lever activation, all the right side caliper pistons are applied, along with four of the pistons on the left side. When the rear brake is applied, the other two left-side pistons are actuated. To maintain equal braking force when using just the front brake, the right side pistons are slightly smaller than the left side piston.

Drawing on 30 years of legendary V4 technology and racing success, Honda designers gave the VFR1200F what is surely the most advanced streetbike engine yet: an all-new, fuel injected, liquid cooled 1237cc. 76 degree, V4 brimming with low end torque (90% of peak torque is available at just 4000 rpm). Overall its more compact than the 781cc engine used in the interceptor. And, of course, it has the inimitable sound and feel that can only come from a VFR.

Slipper Clutch

The VFR’s slipper clutch mechanism moderates the effect of deceleration torque on the rear wheel, allowing engine braking to slow the bike without causing the rear tire to chatter.

Dual Clutch Transmission

Available as an option to the standard six-speed manual offering, our dual clutch, automatic transmission allows push-button six speed paddle shifting. You can also choose from two “automatic” modes (D-mode for regular operation and S-mode for sporty riding), and let the transmission shift for you. In addition, the drive line includes a clutch damper, final damper, cam damper and tomato damper to virtually eliminate drive shaft lurch during power delivery. Total control, total freedom, and the rock solid performance and efficiency of conventional shafts and gears inside the cases. Awesome! 

Exhaust System

Furthering the concept of mass centralization, the VFR’s compact exhaust system has been placed more toward the front of the bike, creating a more integrated, part of the bike feel in addition to a more neutral riding position for the pilot. An asymmetrical (front vs. rear) exhaust length also tunes both feel and sound for a combination of V4 torque and inline power delivery.
